‘No one cares about reality anymore.’
A trailer has been released for Terrence Malick’s eagerly anticipated seventh feature, Knight of Cups (2015), which was recently revealed to be premiering at the 2015 Berlin Film Festival.
Though the plot was once only known as being about “a man, temptations, celebrity, and excess”, a new official – and rather puzzling – synopsis has been released:
Once there was a young prince whose father, the king of the East, sent him down into Egypt to find a pearl. But when the prince arrived, the people poured him a cup. Drinking it, he forgot he was the son of a king, forgot about the pearl and fell into a deep sleep. Rick’s (Christian Bale) father used to read this story to him as a boy. The road to the East stretches out before him. Will he set forth?

This is perhaps Malick’s most star-studded film to date, assembling such names as Cate Blancett, Natalie Portman and Antonio Banderas alongside Bale. The cast is also made up of Imogen Poots, Freida Pinto, Joe Manganiello and Wes Bentley.
There is no official UK release date set, though Knight of Cups will have its world premiere when the 65th Berlin Film Festival kicks off in February 2015.
